Exploring Guitar Techniques and Styles at Artium Academy

Ever felt like wanting to play the acoustic tunes of wish you were here by Pink Floyd? That part was performed on a twelve string guitar.

Before you spam your search bar with “guitar academy near me”, “guitar teacher near me”, “guitar coaching”, let us save you some time. You can find these courses at Artium Academy, which is a reputed institute in Mumbai. Here is a list of guitar techniques and styles at Artium Academy:

  1. Strumming Strumming is when you play all the strings that are part of the chord. You usually accompany it with singing hence you need to develop a good sync. Make sure that you are memorising chord changes and practising smooth chord changes.

  2. Flatpicking It is the style of pricking the strings of the guitar with a pick. It is important that you hold your pick properly to play with fast upstrokes and downstrokes. Incorporated mostly in bluegrass music, you can try different styles within this technique such as fingerstyle that utilises the sound of your nails/fingers.

  3. Solo fingerstyle In solo fingerstyle, you play everything by yourself like melody, bass and chords at the same time. Having all the musical elements, you don’t have to sing in this technique. Start by finding a melody and play it. Then find the chords and try filling them out in between the melody in a way that is rhythmically soothing.

  4. Hammer-ons For executing a hammer-on, start by fretting a note. Next, pluck a string and without releasing the note that you fretted first, quickly hammer down the second note without plucking the string again. While the idea is simple, it might be tricky while actually practising it ! As with all the guitar styles, extreme coordination between your left and right hand is needed.

  5. Pull-offs Opposite to hammer-ons, involve fretting a note, then plucking the string. Without releasing the first note, fret the second note with another finger. While keeping the second note fretted, quickly release the first note and don’t pluck the string again.
